How Does the 2019 Kia Sorento Pull Ahead of the
Honda Competition in Ramsey, NJ?
Both are capable SUVs built both safe and
technologically well-equipped -- ours, succeeding the celebrated Kia Borrego in
2002, and theirs, Honda Pilot, following CR-V and the last-generation Passport
the same year. But in a market for mid-size crossovers that's more competitive
than ever, especially here in Ramsey, NJ, it can be difficult to figure out
which is right for you. Here at Liberty Kia, we've made that easy. Check out
how the new Kia Sorento fares, and we think you'll agree that it comes out on top
where it counts.
Kia Sorento vs. Honda Pilot
The new Sorento comes in L, LX, SX, and SX Limited
trims, with V6-equipped LX and EX options to boot. Pilot appears in base LX,
EX, midrange EX-L, and Touring and Elite at the top of the line. However, 2019
Sorento excels in the details.
- You can look forward to more
engine choices -- an efficient 2.4-liter inline-four and a potent 3.3-liter V6.
Pilot features just one, its own V6, in a 3.5-liter
capacity.
- Sorento is more confident on the road and off the
trail. At 280 horsepower, the base engine in Pilot may get the jump -- Sorento
puts out 185 -- but ours regains the advantage, shelling 290 horsepower in
higher trims.
- Dynamaxtrade; All-Wheel Drive is
available across the line, as is Intelligent Variable Torque Management
(i-VTM4) AWD in Pilot. Both SUVs can also tow up to 5,000 pounds when equipped
properly -- enough for any load from a light towable RV or pair of dirt bikes
or snowmobiles to a fishing boat or even a second car. But, Sorento does it
more efficiently. By EPA estimates, in its FWD base, it gets great fuel economy
-- up to 22 mpg in cities like Spring Valley, NY, 29 mpg across the highway to
Fair Lawn, and 25 mpg combined between Chestnut Ridge, NY and the great
wide-open surrounding Mahwah. In its 2WD base, Pilot gets only approximately 19
mpg, 27, mpg, and 22 mpg respectively. Even if you got closer to Sorento in
Pilot's Touring trim, you'd still only reach about 20 mpg, 27 mpg, and 23 mpg
respectively.
- Sorento is roomier, with a huge
154.2-cubic-foot interior. Pilot lags by a couple of cubic feet, offering 152.9
at base, and still only 153.1 in trims like Pilot
Elite.
- YES Essentials-treated cloth seating, a standard in
lower trims, makes Sorento the more durable choice. Honda's standard cloth
seats aren't as spill- or stain-resistant.
- 7.0-inch UVO
play touchscreen infotainment, a 7-inch UVO eServices system, and an 8-inch UVO
eServices variant with voice-command navigation make up the entertainment and
connectivity options in Sorento. Honda offers only a 5-inch LCD in its Pilot
base and an 8-inch Display Audio model in higher trims. Android Auto and Apple
CarPlay are standard everywhere in the Sorento line, but to get it in Pilot,
you need to step up to the EX trim.
- A new Kia Sorento is
more affordable to purchase or lease here in Ramsey than a Honda Pilot. Ours
starts around $25,990, while theirs weighs in at a whopping $31,450 or
so.
