Is a new SUV on your horizon this year? If so, check out the new 2023 Kia Sorento. As one of the only small SUVs on the market to offer third-row seating, the Sorento is undeniably versatile, especially given how much legroom is available in both back rows. Its list of standard and optional features is massive, and the crisp graphics and easy-to-use layout on the infotainment system make the Sorento a model worth test-driving. Let's take a closer look at what this year's lineup has in store for buyers in the Ramsey, NJ area.
Powertrain Offerings
The gas-powered 2023 Kia Sorento has two options that buyers can consider. The base engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder model that generates a power output of 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission delivers power to either the front wheels (FWD) or all four wheels (AWD). However, starting on the EX trim level, there is a higher-powered 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that puts forth 281 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission comes paired to this turbo engine.
There are some hybrid powertrain options to choose from if you would like to save a little more on fuel. Kia offers the Sorento as a standard or plug-in hybrid. They have most of the same feature offerings, but obviously, they have unique powertrains that utilize lithium-ion batteries and electric motors in addition to a gasoline-powered engine. The standard hybrid comes as the S or EX and has a total power output of 227 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The plug-in gets 32 miles of electric range and has a total output of 261 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
Trim Levels
The 2023 Kia Sorento comes in your choice of five trim levels: the base LX, S, EX, SX, and SX Prestige. There is an X-line appearance package available on the S, EX, and SX Prestige trims.
Tech and Safety Features
The 2023 Sorento lineup has a rather impressively lengthy list of standard and optional technological and safety features. Starting on the base LX trim level, you get an 8-inch touchscreen display and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. A six-speaker sound system is also available. On the S trim, you get upgraded to a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen and an integrated navigation system. The EX adds a wireless phone charger, and the SX Prestige upgrades to a 12-speaker Bose audio system.
Each Sorento has forward collision mitigation, lane keep assist, and driver attention warning tech. The S tacks on rear automatic braking, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors for the rear of the vehicle. Adaptive cruise control, a lane-keeping system, and an advanced forward collision mitigation system accompany the EX trim level. On the line-topping SX Prestige, you get a blind spot camera, a 360-degree camera system, and parking sensors for the front of the Sorento.
