The new 2023 Kia K5 dazzles with its bold exterior look and a strong turbo engine in the GT trim. Shoppers can enjoy plenty of tech features and a user-friendly infotainment system. This midsize sedan delivers a quiet, comfortable ride and has a superb powertrain warranty. The new K5 has a well-appointed interior, ample seating space and a sizable trunk.

What's New for 2023?

The 2023 model spots minor changes, including dropping the LX trim. The LXS trim is now the entry-level trim and loses all-wheel drive. The GT, GT-Line and EX trims have an acoustic front door that greatly minimizes road noise.

Performance

The standard 180-horsepower 1.6-liter turbo-four engine propels the K5 through Ramsey, NJ, making 195 pound-feet of torque. Power is distributed to the front wheels, and the engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is available for the GT-Line trim. The standard engine provides plenty of power for daily use and has decent acceleration. Drivers can enjoy secure and composed handling, while the available all-wheel drive on the GT-Line offers more traction.

Drivers looking for a more thrilling ride can opt for the available 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine on the GT model that makes 290 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. It employs a dual-clutch eight-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The base engine returns above-average fuel estimates with 37 mpg on the highway, while the optional engine achieves 32 mpg on the highway.

Exterior/Interior

The Kia K5 has a fastback appearance featuring LED headlights, 16-inch wheels and a coupe-like profile. The GT-Line comes with a sportier look and unique exterior elements. Inside the new K5, drivers will be amazed by its sophisticated and feature-packed cabin.

It has a smart and modern look and comfortable seating in both rows. Passengers can enjoy ample legroom, although the sloping roofline affects headroom for taller passengers in the rear seats. The K5 has an above-average trunk space with a wide opening and a low liftover height. Drivers can fold the rear seats down for more room.

Various upscale appointments are available in the K5, including a leather-wrapped steering wheel, LED interior lighting, heated and ventilated front seats and a power-adjustable driver's seat.

Technology

The K5's infotainment system has a well-organized menu layout displayed on the standard 8-inch touchscreen. The system is responsive and pairs with connectivity features like wireless smartphone connectivity, voice recognition and a six-speaker audio system. Dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry and a hands-free power trunk lid are also standard. Multiple features are available for upgrade, including wireless device charging, navigation, a 12-speaker Bose® audio system and SiriusXM®.

Safety

The new Kia K5 has good safety ratings and offers drivers plenty of standard and available safety features. Standard driver-assists include blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, driver attention warning, high-beam assist, lane-keeping system and rear cross-traffic alert. Available features include reverse automatic emergency braking, surround-view parking camera system, adaptive cruise control, reverse collision warning and front and rear parking sensors.

Trim Levels

The 2023 Kia K5 has four trims, including the entry-level LXS trim. The GT-Line adds a few features, including a leather-wrapped steering wheel, wireless charging pad, navigation system and a 10.25 touchscreen. Drivers can find luxury features like LED interior lighting, a panoramic sunroof and simulated leather upholstery on the EX trim.
