2024 Kia Carnival vs. 2024 Honda CR-V

Engine

The new Kia Carnival offers a stronger performance than the Honda CR-V does, which makes getting around town or across the country easier and more commanding when you’re behind the wheel. All the new Carnival models come equipped with an impressive 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 290-horsepower and 262 pounds-feet of torque, making for a commanding and bold driving experience wherever you go. The new Honda CR-V lineup offers two available engine options, but neither match the output of the Carnival. The CR-V has a standard 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 190-horsepower and 179 pounds-feet of torque, or an available 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors. The hybrid powertrain combines for 204-horsepower and 247 pounds-feet of torque.

Performance

Both vehicles deliver smooth drivability. However, all the new Honda CR-V models come with a continuously variable automatic transmission that doesn’t shift from gear to gear, which can leave your performance feeling slightly lackadaisical. The Kia Carnival, on the other hand, uses an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Interior

The new Kia Carnival is far larger than the Honda CR-V is, making it ideal for families, traveling with friends, or fitting all your largest storage needs. The Honda CR-V is a midsize crossover SUV that offers seating for five passengers. The Kia Carnival is a minivan that provides two seating configurations. You can either fit up to eight passengers with a second row captain’s seat, or seven passengers when you choose a model with second row captain’s seats.

The new Kia Carnival models also allow you to utilize more cargo space. Behind the third row, there’s 40.2 cubic feet of cargo space, which is amongst the most in its class. The Honda CR-V offers a similar 39.3 cubic feet behind its second row. Folding down the third row in the Carnival lets you enjoy 86.9 cubic feet of cargo space, while folding down all the rear seats lets you take advantage of up to 145.1 cubic feet of maximum cargo space. The Honda CR-V has up to 76.5 cubic feet of maximum cargo space.

Technology

The new Kia Carnival and Honda CR-V models both have a cutting-edge infotainment system. The Carnival displays it on a standard 8-inch touchscreen, with a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen available on the EX trim level and up. The Honda CR-V has a standard 7-inch touchscreen with a 9-inch touchscreen as the largest option on higher trim levels.

Safety

Both the new Kia Carnival and Honda CR-V lineups offer an impressive array of standard driver assistance features, but you’ll get more in the Kia Carnival models. All come with forward collision mitigation, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane departure mitigation, parking sensors, safe exit assist, and a rear seat reminder system. The Honda CR-V has forward collision warning with automatic braking, lane keeping assistance, and adaptive cruise control.
