It's also available with multiple powertrains, including an efficient hybrid and a plug-in hybrid model with all-electric capability.

There's certainly no shortage of options in the crowded compact crossover class. However, the Kia Sportage delivers a superbly well-rounded package that's tough to top. To provide a few examples, here's a quick look at how the 2024 Sportage measures up in a few key areas to another long-running segment competitor, the 2024 Honda CR-V.

2024 Kia Sportage vs. Honda CR-V: Standard Performance

The Kia Sportage (2.5-liter four-cylinder) and Honda CR-V (1.5-liter turbo-four) a closely matched in standard performance, with the Sportage producing 187 horsepower to the CR-V's 190. But while Sportage changes gears with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the CR-V uses a less refined continuously variable transmission.

2024 Kia Sportage vs. Honda CR-V: Hybrid

Both models offer battery-assisted options for drivers seeking a more economical solution to their daily commutes. However, the Kia Sportage Hybrid is more potent and efficient than the CR-V Hybrid. The Sportage Hybrid uses a 1.6-liter turbo-four and an electric motor to produce 227 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It achieves EPA-estimated ratings of 38 (AWD) or 43 (FWD) mpg in combined city/highway driving. The CR-V's 2.0-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain generates 204 hp/247 lb-ft, with an EPA-estimated rating of 37 mpg (AWD) or 40 mpg (FWD).¹

Are you seeking something with even higher performance or efficiency? How about both? The Kia Sportage Plug-in Hybrid adds a larger plug-in electric powertrain to the 1.6-liter turbo-four. The result is increased horsepower (261) and an EPA-estimated 84 MPGe (miles-per-gallon equivalent).¹ With an estimated 34 miles of electric-only range, the Kia Sportage lets you get the EV experience without switching to 100% battery power. It also doesn't require special equipment and can replenish its battery overnight (10-12 hours) using a standard household-style power outlet.

The Honda CR-V isn't available as a PHEV model.

2024 Kia Sportage vs. Honda CR-V: Features

The 2024 Kia Sportage LX comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a 12.2-inch digital gauge cluster. However, all other trims have a 12.3-inch infotainment display with advanced navigation, Kia Connect, a wireless charging pad, and USB ports for rear passengers. SX and higher models upgrade to dual 12.3-inch panoramic displays with a customizable instrument panel. The Honda CR-V's base infotainment screen is seven inches. You can get a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, and integrated navigation, but they're reserved for the highest CR-V trims. A fully digital instrument panel is unavailable in the CR-V lineup.

Both models have available comfort amenities like heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and dual-zone automatic climate control. However, the Kia Sportage offers ventilated front seats (Prestige models) and cabin pre-climatization via the Kia Access App (all but the base trim). These features aren't available in the CR-V.

2024 Kia Sportage vs. Honda CR-V: Driver Aids

Both models come standard with many advanced driver aids, including collision mitigation, lane-keeping assistance, automatic high beams, and driver attention warning. Stepping up one level in either model adds blind-spot and rear cross-traffic detection; however, the Sportage includes collision avoidance, while the CR-V's systems are just alerts. The CR-V limits blind-spot monitoring and rear traffic alert to its highest tier, and they don't include avoidance technology.

The Kia Sportage also offers a few technologies you won't find in any CR-V configuration. Examples include Surround View Monitor, Blind-Spot View Monitor, Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control, Highway Driving Assist, and Safe Exit Warning.
